1. MATCH REPORT
  2. Sunday 7th February
  3. Bury Tigers 3 v Ipswich Valley A 1
  4. Another postponement, another boring weekend, another sunday morning of moping around the house twiddling our thumbs with nothing to do looked highly likely as the call came through on Friday that Valley Rangers pitch was waterlogged, Sundays match was OFF!! (Boo hoo!). Only quick thinking from the 2 managers (our heroes) and Keano Walters grovelling phonecall to our groundsman Deano Betts saved the day. The fixture was switched to our beloved ‘theatre of dreams’ Risby, and it was GAME ON again (hooray!). Deano waved his magic wand with the white line machine on Saturday and then on matchday Ms Sarah Williams armed with wheelbarrow and shovel set about repairing the damage that the local vandels (otherwise known as the rowdy rabbit gang!) had done to our pitch, well done Ms W, I’m impressed. Thanks also go to Messrs Blyth and Walker for their help too. With the preparations complete it was over to the Tigerboys to do their bit. Skipper Harvey D was absent and so Keano handed the captains armband to master Scott Huddleston Betts for this clash with league leaders Valley Rangers A. Right from the kick-off it was obvious both sides liked to get the ball down and play, committed, attractive football. Tigers widemen Josh Shutler and Ellie ‘P’ started brightly giving Valleys defence early problems while at the other end Iwan ‘the cat’ Williams in Tigers goal made a couple of fine saves to deny Valley. Both sides strived for the opening goal, Tigers went close with fine efforts from Ellie Gerrard Pearson who shot just wide, then Josh Lampard Daly hit the post with his shot. Valley almost broke the deadlock soon after when only a brilliant flying goal line clearance from Jarrad Rio Lebbon prevented them doing just that. Then just when it looked like an entertaining 1st half would end goalless, Josh Joe Cole Shutler worked his way into the Valley area before driving a low shot into the bottom corner of the net, 1-0. Tigers half-time refreshments tasted sweeter thanks to Master Shutlers fine goal. HT. 1-0.

Valley came out strongly after the break and were soon level, a cool finish made it 1-1. Tigers responded well, the match flowed from end to end, the pace, quality and commitment of the teams was relentless, but it was obvious 1 poor guy was struggling to keep up!....(due mainly to his severe lack of the afore mentioned... Pace, commitment and quality!!), the poor old refereee was flagging. Thankfully the Tigerboys not only kept up but even stepped up to another gear, Alex the rock Walters was anchoring the midfield well allowing Josh D to pull the strings beside him. Defensivly Tigers were excellent, James Fabregas Blyth, George Gallas Fox, Jarrad L and Scottie B doing extremely well to thwart Valleys lively strikers. Captain Scott having his best game yet as a Tiger also linked well with the increasingly threatening Max Ronaldo Stubbs down Tigers left. With strikers Luke Rooney Walker and Miles Drogbas Orlopp looking lively upfront, it was no real suprise that Tigers regained the lead, great work from Ronaldo Stubbs teed-up Lukie Walker who applied the finish, 2-1. Valley are a decent side and as expected fought back hard, Iwan the Cat having to make 2 more important saves to preserve Tigers slender advantage. Tigers also threatened again and it was them who sealed victory with their vital 3rd goal, Ronaldo Stubbs beating 4 players before crossing for Luke Walker to deservedly notch his 2nd of the match. The ref just had enough puff left for 1 last blast of his whistle to end this pulsating encounter and possibly Tigers best display so far this season? Credit also goes to Valley Rangers, who contributed massively to an enjoyable mornings entertainment. Thanks go to our linesman for the day Tom Daly, son of our ever dependable refreshments lady Mrs George Forman Daly (well done both), and everyone else who helped along the way too. It just leaves me to contratulate Keano, captain Scott and the Tigerboys on a fine display and a special mention for Miles O who typified the Tigers spirit by battling on despite a very sore ankle, well done one and all. See you all soon.
