The weekend saw the return of Tigers football (much to the delight of the mags I’m sure) after 3 LONG weeks without any. So, what’s been happening during the break?  Well Liverpool have turned into a team that would struggle to beat Accrington Stanley, Chelsea  beat Man Utd in the big game to lead the premiership, while Arsenal are scoring goals for fun. In the championship strange things are happening, Newcastle are somehow top of the table and even more surprising than that…. Ipswich Town have won a game at last, Wonders will never cease !!. One of our MAGS has been a busy bee, sorting out the boys new’ well cool’ waterproof jackets, ready for the weekend (very smart) well done Mrs Daly great work. There’s good and bad news regarding a couple of the Tiger boys Fabian Shearer Horrex is doing really well in the Cambridge Utd development squad (well done mate, keep up the good work) and on a more disappointing note Clayton Haircut Mackie has decided to hang up his boots, which is a shame as Clayton had made great progress in his 2 years with the team and he will be missed by everyone at the club. Tigers travelled to Moreton Hall on Sunday  to play a knockout cup match, the weather was kind to us and bright sunshine greeted us. Luckie Walker was missing through illness (get well soon pal) while George Fox was running a little late but would arrive as soon as he could. Keano decided on a 4-4-2 formation and finally the long awaited action got underway. Tigers knew they were in for a battle on a narrow, bumpy pitch which was also in need of a  man (or woman) with a lawn mower. Tigers started brightly, determined to avenge their early season defeat by Hall. After a couple of close things Tigers took the lead, Josh Joe Cole Shutler’s left-wing cross was missed by everyone except Elliot bless him Pearson that is and he coolly slotted Tigers in front, 0-1. Hall were looking threatening on the break and almost equalised but an heroic goal-line clearance from Scott Huddlestone Betts saved the day and Tigers lead. Josh Lampard Daly and Josh Shutler went close for Tigers soon after.  Miles Drogba Orlop then went on a strong forward run which took him into Halls area before he was bundled to the ground…”Penalty” we screamed…… Unfortunately our  claims were turned down. Tigers defence looked sound, Alex the Rock Walters and Jarrad Rio Lebbon in the centre again working well together and full backs James Fabergas Blyth and Scott Huddlestone Betts were having excellent games. Iwan the cat Williams made a fine save from a long range Hall effort before Elle P tested Halls keeper at the other end, he also saved well meaning at half-time Tigers lead narrowly , 0-1.  Half time and still no sign of Georgie Fox or his dad Tim, at this rate he was going to struggle to get his place back, especially as his stand-in was giving such an elegant performance!...  Yes I’m sorry to tell you Tim, Mr Dinkele was having a blinder as the referee’s assistant.

Tigers weren’t at their best but were working hard and closing down Halls players quickly. Slowly but surely they began to dominate the 2nd half, Harvey Smithy D and Josh D driving Tigers forward. Halls keeper was playing well and he denied Josh D, Fabian Shearer Horrex and Miles O as Tigers strived for that vital 2nd goal. Max Ronaldo Stubbs and Ellie P linked well down the right but again Tigers were thwarted. With Miles O showing some great touches up front and Fabian becoming more influential as the game went on surely the 2nd goal would come….. WOULDN’T IT?  It did and it was worth waiting for, Fabian Shearer Horrex lobbing the Hall keeper with a fine shot from the edge of the box, 0-2, Hall needed a quick reply but found Iwan in stubborn mood despite injuring his finger in the the 1st half (hope its ok now mate!!) he was determined to keep another clean sheet. Then out of the blue with 5 minutes left, guess what???  George Fox arrived, HOORAY, Keano acted quickly and the defender was brought on to see the team safely through to victory. Five tremendous minutes and two awesome touches later George had done his job and surely made a late bid for the M.O.M award?  During all the excitement of the last 5 minutes (all missed by a distraught Mr Shutler who was answering a call of nature) Fabian sneaked through Halls defence again to score his second and Tigers 3rd and send the boys through to the next round of the cup, what fun, oh how we’ve missed the thrills and spills of a Tigers Match! Lets hope we have no more free weekends until at least next June!!

Thanks go to Mr Dinkele for running the line and well done to Keano and the Tiger boys on reaching the next round of the cup(that’s another spare week end filled, lovelyjubbly !!) , cu all next week when we play league leaders Stow Town.

Morton Hall Directories M.O.M ; Scott Betts: (sorry George) Scott was in determined mood, 1st to almost everything and a great goal line clearance, well played mate.
