MATCH REPORT - SUNDAY 3rd February

OPEN CUP QUARTER FINALS

ST BENETS WASPS 4  000BURY TIGERS 1

Sunday saw the Wayne Osborne convoy hit the road once more as Bury Tiger’s made the long haul along the A143 to Beccles for an Open cup quarter-final against St Benets. Well done to all parents, family members/supporters who again braved the early start and chilling weather to turn out in force for the Tiger boy’s. I know your dedication is much appreciated by Rick and everyone connected with the running of the team, I’m sure you’ll agree the boy’s did us proud again on Sunday.

Tigers started the match playing into a very strong wind. St Benets started well and the Tiger’s had to weather the storm in more ways than one. Mattie Osborne and Alex Walters did a sterling job in defence, while Harvey Dinkele performed brilliantly in the roll of goalie in the absence of our No 1 Matthew Le Poidevin. The whole team did well to restrict St Benets to 2 goals, while producing a couple of chances on the break in what was  a hard 1st half and at half-time we were very much in the game.

After the break and with the wind now at their backs Tiger’s set about reducing the deficit, chances came and went before Tiger’s did strike, Josh shutler’s left wing corner was bundled into the net by the excellent Elliot Pearson. The game was now well and truly on with Tiger’s throwing everything, including the kitchen sink at St Benets defence whilst St Benets passing was good and they were very dangerous on the break, a great save from Harvey Dinkele kept Tiger’s in the tie . It was obvious we hadn’t brought lady luck along the A143 with us (can someone remember to pick her up next time please?) as on a number of occasions the ball just wouldn’t fall right for our boys , with Josh Shutler,  Jarrad Lebbon, Elliot Pearson, Max Stubbs and Miles Orlopp all going close. The inevitable happened late in the game St Benets decisive breaks produced two more well taken goals and so we wished them well in the next round and returned home with our heads held high.

Back to league action next week boy’s.

Man Of Match: Elliot Pearson: Played like Steve Gerrard or even better Emre Bazogalou, quality, great attitude, well done mate.
