Tigers returned to the Theatre of dreams, Risby, to play a home match for the first time in 9 weeks! The 20th September was the last time Mrs Daly fired up the George Foreman grill whilst others grappled manfully to erect those damn goal posts, oh and fill in the rabbit holes too. We were soon back in the grove and as the bacon sizzled the goals and holes were sorted, At this point I’d like to thank Peter (Fabians Dad) for his help in erecting the goals …………. I’d like to but I’m afraid I can’t…. because he didn’t!, Instead he waited until we’d finished before appearing from nowhere. Don’t worry next time we’ll ask Tierry Henry to help, he’s pretty good with his hands isn’t he? To be honest it was our new grounds man Dean (Scotts Dad) who must take most of the credit for the preparation of the pitch etc. well done him and doesn’t he look the part too especially in his bovver boots….. although you could drop the Spurs hat mate. We welcomed Stow Town to our humble abode on an overcast but dry morning, Skipper Harvey D was missing for Tigers but Lukie Walker returned to the squad. League leaders Stow Town had the wind behind them in the 1st half and it was going to be a tough test for the Tiger boys. Stow forced Tigers back and defenders James Fabergas Blyth, Scott Huddlestone Betts, Jarrad Rio Lebbon and Georgie Fox had to work overtime to keep them out early on. Big Stow striker Ryan is probably as good a striker as Tigers will face this season and a moment of skill from him broke Tigers resilience and put Stow ahead 0-1. Tigers fought back and Fabian Shearer Horrex and Max Ronaldo Stubbs started to cause Stow’s defence problems of their own. However Stow it was who went mighty close to increasing their lead, twice scoring goals but from offside positions, so they were ruled out and two fine saves from in- form Tigers keeper Iwan the cat Williams kept the score at 0-1. Tigers had chances of their own Josh Shutler and Ellie putting in good crosses that flew across the face of Stows goal. Tigers were giving a determined 1st half display but Stow scored a deserved 2nd before half-time with another well taken goal. There was still time in the half for Josh Lampard Daly to send in a rasping drive which forced a fine save from Stows keeper and soon after the whistle blew to end the half with Stow 2 up. Could boss Keano Walters team talk inspire his Tiger troops to keep up the fight against their impressive opposition? With the brisk wind now behind them Tigers started the 2nd half well, Alex the rock Walters and Fabian Shearer Horrex driving the team forward from central midfield, Josh D and Ellie P were creating chances from the wings and up front 2 of the following at any one time, Lukie Walker, Miles O, Ronaldo Stubbs and Josh Shutler all strived hard to get Tigers back into the game. Stow fought hard and created some chances of their own as the game flowed from end to end. Jarrads battle with Stows striker Ryan was an excellent one and Tigers defence including Iwan in goal were doing really well. Then Tigers struck, Josh Shutlers through ball sent Elliot Gerrard Pearson into stows area, he turned his marker brilliantly before coolly slotting the ball into the net 1-2 and Tigers were back in with a shout and its 3 goals in the last 4 games for Elegant Ellie our little right winger. The game was now frantic with chances at both ends, the excitement on the touchline was reaching fever pitch, there were ooooooooooh’s and aaaaaaaaaaaah’s, shouting and screaming, clapping , cheering and even shrieking at times! Wow, were else could you have such fun for as little as the cost of a bacon butty, cuppa tea and a raffle ticket? Alex and Elliot went close for Tigers and Stow hit the post at the other end before the final whistle blew and despite the valiant efforts of the Tiger boys Stow Town held on to their lead and deservedly won this entertaining and sporting league encounter, congratulations to them and a big pat on the back to every one of the Tiger boys for their performance. All that was left to do was clear up, Thanks to everyone who mucked in (rumour has it even Peter was seen with a spanner in his hand??) and special Thanks must go to Josh S’s little sister Grace who did a brilliant job in overseeing that the goal dismantling operation was done properly and efficiently, well done her . Well played boys, Thurston at home next week (when we can do it all again, yippee!) See you all then, I hope.
