MATCH REPORT - SUNDAY 20th APRIL (last match) THURSTON 0 .BURY TIGERS 0 I’m going to start this report with a little sing along, I’m sure you know the tune to this Queen classic, so please join in,… “WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS MY FRIENDS, AND WE’LL KEEP ON FIGHTING TO THE END”….. Stop there everyone! Ok so you lot can’t sing but very apt lyric’s (I think you’ll agree) for the Tiger boy’s. We are now the champions (hooray) and ‘boy’ did we have to fight on until the very end. A decent Thurston side battled right up to the final whistle, (was it just me or did the final 20 seconds feel like 2 hours?). Now when I refer to ‘we’ or ‘us’ of course I mean those 11 magnificent Tiger boy’s who have made this season a pleasure to be part of, making those long journey’s (behind Wayne) and those freezing cold wintery Sunday mornings (fair-weather supporters excluded), very much worthwhile. The match itself is very much a blur, so the report on the football, will I’m afraid be vague (some would say judging by previous reports most games must have been very much a blur) For a more detailed description of the game see the MAGS report. All I can remember is far to many close shaves at both ends for my liking, crossbars being hit, goalkeepers making decent saves, great blocks by defenders and shots going just wide, every player from both sides giving their all in desire, commitment and bags and bags of skill for their respective teams, great to watch (if a little nerve-racking !) It was great to see so many people out to cheer the Tiger’s on, we thank you all, (even Mrs ‘P’ came out in the rain, in her stunning wellies!!!), special mentions must go to, firstly our new signings for next season, George Fox, James Blyth, Josh Shutler and Eben , your new team mates really appreciated your support. Next our No1 supporter and club secretary Wayne ‘O’ who constantly berated Micky Mouse for not moving his hands fast enough, as he stared tensely at his new Disney watch , (How long you playing ref ????). Then there is our “lucky mascot” Mr Pearson who escaped from the housework for a while to watch the match, despite getting lost and having to STOP to ASK directions to the ground . We also had a debutant in the crowd Miss Emma Le Poidevin (Matthews little sister) who commented at half-time “this watching football ain’t as bad as I thought it would be” probably due to the fact Bonnie, Caitlin and Emily were there to play with, but never the less good to see you there Emma , your 1st game and Tiger’s are crowned champions, now that’s what I call a lucky mascot!! The final whistle brought a huge sigh of relief, a big cheer and the Ipswich and Suffolk league division 2 title for Bury Tigers and promotion for Thurston , we congratulate them for that and look forward to our matches with them next season. Our league record makes impressive reading, playing 16 games, winning 10, drawing 4 and losing only 2, we scored 35 goals and conceded only 12, not bad hey?? It just leaves me to say a BIG well done to our little champs, enjoy your achievement and I hope you’ve all enjoyed your footie this season (that’s the most important thing). Well done to everyone connected with the club including the MAGS and a HUGE pat on the back for Manager Rick Walters, who I think you’ll all agree (again) has done a magnificent job, well done mate. Well done Tiger’s see you next week, when we can talk about the TOON ARMY, can’t we ? Two nil and all that. Man Of Match: Mattie ‘O’ : Unlike his Father, cool, strong and in complete control. Like his team mates JUST CHAMPION !!!Back to this weeks Match Report
