Sunday 16th May Bury Tigers 3 v Ipswich Valley B 5 Well here it is at last an update on what’s been going on in the world of the Tigers over the last 2 or 3 weeks . A much demanded match report (well I had 1 or 2 inquiries into why there had been NO MATCH REPORTS lately ? That’s much demanded in my book). Anyway I’ll start with an apology…… sorry it’s late and I’m also sorry for the Walshem debacle, remember that ? (that’ll teach Rick to leave me in charge !!!) the abandoned match, I’m sorry to everyone who travelled over to the game and especially to the Tiger boys for having to call the match off but under the circumstances I had no choice as we had no idea who or how old our opponents actually were! Also to round off a great morning our convoy arrived at Walshem with 1 car missing, somehow Josh Shutlers Nan had taken a wrong turn early in the journey and went halfway around Suffolk before she found us again at Walshem (sorry Josh’s Nan, I don’t really know how it happened, although having a Sat Nav called Josh beside you probably didn’t help ?), Well that’s enough about Walshem, on to the following Thursday and Tigers home match with Thurston, thankfully Rick was back (phew!). After Tigers fabulous cup victory it was going to be hard to lift themselves again for the final few league games of the season. Thurston proved to be a tough way to start the run-in, their long throw- in’s caused problems and they edged a tight but scrappy 1st half which ended 0-0, Thanks mainly to a great goal line clearance from Alex Walters. Ricks half time talk lifted the Tigers and they came out stronger after the break, Miles O, Josh D and Maxi Stubbs all went close before Scott McGavins low right foot shot found the net, 1-0. Skipper Harvey D drove in Tigers 2nd soon after to give Tigers a 2-0 lead. Thurston didn’t give up and only a fantastic save from Iwan Williams in Tigers goal denied them a way back into the game. Tigers despite being below par completed their victory when striker Luke Walker drove the ball into the corner of the net to make it 3-0. On to Sunday which saw Bury Town arrive at the Theatre of dreams for another league match. Well done to groundsman Deano Betts for his hard work once again on the pitch. Everyone was in admiration of the new WELL SMART Gazibo which Mrs Daly and her little elves had erected all by themselves for the purpose of refreshments, (very impressive). On to the footie, both teams made a bright start on a cold damp morning but despite chances at both ends it took a while for the opening goal to arrive but when it finally did it was worth waiting for as Tigers defender Scott’ hot shot’ Betts swivelled on the edge of Towns box and drilled the ball into the net, 1-0 . This lifted Tigers and 1 soon became 2 as Josh Sat-Nav Shutler somehow floated a left wing corner straight into the net, 2-0 and that was to remain the score through to half time. Town came out strong after the break and soon reduced the deficit to 1 goal again, 2-1. It was a very even game and it remained so throughout the 2nd half but when Max Stubbs Tigers golden boot boy added another goal to his already excellent seasons tally it put Tigers in a strong position at 3-1. It was a very good match with plenty of great performances on both sides and the excitement mounted again when a fine goal from Danny Hammett brought Town back into the game at 3-2. Both teams had chances to score again before another cracking long range effort brought Town level at 3-3. It was a fine match and neither side deserved to lose so it was fitting that the match ended 3-3. Well done to both sides and a big thank you to everyone who helped out especially to Mr P who gave a fine display as referee’s assistant. Our 3rd home game in just over a week( it was 3 in 9 days actually !) saw Ipswich Valley Rangers visit our humble abode, we’ve never been so busy the George Forman was in danger of over heating, the Referee had aches and pains in muscles he never knew he had and that was before the start of this match! and the goals were going up and down more frequently than Mrs P goes on her holidays (and that’s saying something !). Rick had to do without keeper Iwan Williams for this game and so it was a case of drawing straws for the Tiger boys to see who went in goal, poor old Harvey D drew the shortest and in he went between the sticks. This was to turn out to be another entertaining and exciting match between 2 evenly matched sides, Valley took the lead early on and then Tigers equalised when Max Stubbs teed-up Lukie Walker who scored, 1-1. Scott McGavin hit the bar with a fine left foot shot before Tigers took the lead as the returning Fabian Horrex grabbed a goal in his farewell game for Tigers, 2-1. Fabian is doing well in the Cambridge Utd Centre of Excellance and his aim of course is to one day reach the very top and play for the MIGHTY MAGPIES, Newcastle United, we all wish you well Fabs and you are of course always welcome back at any time mate. Anyway that goal gave Tigers the edge at half time 2-1. The 2nd half became very open with both teams looking for goals and playing decent football, with the pitch bumpy and hard further goals were inevitable, Valley made it 2-2 midway through the half, Tigers responded well but it began to look like the promised further goals wouldn’t come until with time running out Tigers scored a fine 3rd goal. Josh sat-nav Shutler crossed and the now’ prolific’ Scott Betts headed home, 3-2 Tigers, that’s 4 this season for Scott and his proud Mum said” he normally only gets 2 a season” ! Well done Scottie boy but that doesn’t mean you can put your feet up next season, just cos you’ve got 4 this one . I think the ref should have blown his whistle there and then, after all there was only a couple of minutes plus injury time left but he didn’t and unfortunately something unbelievable happened, Valley scored 3 times in as many minutes to win the game 3-5, leaving a shell shocked and blameless Harvey D praying for Iwans quick return and the Tigers team wondering just what had hit them? Rick said it all in his after match team talk “ the boys played well and didn’t deserve that!” and he’s right, these things happen in football and the boys are encouraged to play a good, passing style of football which they did and on this occasion unfortunately it contributed to at least 2 of Valleys goals but the boys will always be praised for trying to play the right way ,So well done boys keep your chins up, mistakes will happen but its how you recover from them that is important. Well done to Valley for their win , well done Tigers for their part in a good game and well done to everyone for their hard work once again. 1 more game to go and then you can put your feet up boys Hooray,
See you all at the weekend for that final game against Stow Town. M.O.M’s Thurston match: Luke Walker, Worked really hard and deserved his goal. Bury Town match: James Blyth, cool, calm and collected. Ipswich Valley match: Joshua Daly, neat passing and hard working. Well done boys. ell and made some great and brave saves, well played mate.
