- Sunday 13th September
- Bury Tigers FC 10 v Walsham Le Willows 1
Its all systems go once again for our slightly new look Bury Tigers, both on and off the pitch. We have a new club chairperson in the shape of Mrs P, Mr Tim Fox has joined boss Keano Walters coaching staff and Mrs George Foreman Daly is the new head of fundraising (her main ROLL is to bring home the BACON) to keep the much needed finances in good shape. Good luck to you all in your new jobs.
The Team has a new sponsor MORETON HALL DIRECTORY which is fantastic news. As a result of our new sponsor the boys were able to play their opening league match of the season on Sunday in a brand new ‘well cool’ orange and black kit. Thank you and welcome to everyone connected with MHD. Onto the squad, boss Keano Walters decided he needed to change very little over the summer, so while Real Madrid and Manchester city chucked money around (like Mrs P does on her holidays to Bognor) on many new players Keano signed Scott Betts from Moreton Hall then sat back with his feet up knowing his squad was in pretty good shape thank you very much. So Welcome Scott and his family, good to have you on board.
The Tigers went into Sunday’s game having completed a fine pre-season with victories over Rattlesden and Thurston and a creditable 1-1 draw with a decent Ransomes side. We welcomed Walsham to the Theatre of dreams, Risby and Keano had a strong squad at his disposal with only poor old Mattie O out with his ongoing heel problem, get fit soon Mattie mate. One thing stood out about our opponents as the teams lined up, they had Peter Crouch in their goal!!! Tigers started confidently Josh Shutler and Ellie P looking dangerous down the flanks. Walsham found it difficult to hold a rampant looking Tigers team who’s passing and movement were very good. Great work from Lukie Walker Sent Max Ronaldo Stubbs through the middle, his shot hit a defender on its way into the net to open Tiger’s account for the season. One soon became two as Josh Shutlers corner was expertly turned into the net by Ellie Gerrard Pearson. New boy Scott Betts was having a good debut alongside Josh D in central midfield. Tigers added a 3rd after good work from full-back George Gallas Fox had set-up skipper Harvey D to stroke the ball home. Walsham battled hard but couldn’t stop strikers Lukie Walker and Miles Orlopp from adding a goal a piece to Tigers tally making it 5. Just on the stroke of half-time Iwan ‘the cat’ Williams made a great save in Tigers goal to deny Walsham and so it remained 5-0 at half-time.
Tigers defence which was made up of 4 of the following at any one time, Jarrad Rio Lebbon, Alex the rock Walters, James Fabregas Blyth, George Gallas Fox, Clayton’ has he had his Haircut?’ Mackie and Harvey D all had very good games but one lapse in concentration at the start of the 2nd half saw Walsham claw a goal back, 5-1. Despite this set back Tigers clicked back into gear, Fabian Shearer Horrex causing mayhem in Walsham defence with his skill. Goals began to flow again. Josh Shutler (looking to become the new assist king) teed up Ronaldo Stubbs who scored No 6. A great move involving Josh Shutler (its that man again), Fabregas Blyth, Ellie P and Ronaldo Stubbs teed-up Josh Lampard Daly who gleefully scored the 7th. Lukie Walker got his 2nd and Tigers 8th and then Josh D got his 2nd and Tigers 9th with a cross-shot cracker. The final goal was an own goal…………..only Joking Scott, it was of course a thunderbolt free-kick from debutant Scott Huddlestone Betts to round off a fine day for Keano Walters and the boys.
